Krishna Devi Prahladka

Crochet and embroidery

A tiny sky for tiny shoulders.

At seventy, she picked up the hook again after decades away. Her crochet is a revival — stitched, as Narimade puts it, from memory, care and sheer joy.

Crochet and embroidery

Crochet and embroidery is worked entirely by hand, motif by motif, before anything is joined to the cloth. It cannot be rushed and it cannot be machined — which is why every piece differs slightly from the last.

This is a description of the technique, not of Krishna. How she came to it, and what she would say about it, is hers to tell.
